Get into the Halloween spirit! Decorations are being put up, costumes are being made, and candy is being bought. But do you know which candy is most popular among high school students these days? I went and asked a 15 of my spookiest friends what their favorite Halloween candy is, and received a few interesting and surprising results. Providing them with five choices, they definitely did not disappoint! Are you ready to find out who won the competition? Ready, set, go!
Sour Patch Kids
In last place, unfortunately, is Sour Patch Kids which only received one vote out of the fifteen. The contrasting flavors of sweet and sour just didn’t seem to win the taste buds over this year.
Snickers
“Snickers is the best candy. They are sweet, salty, crunchy, and chewy. I think this is the ideal balance of taste and texture which is why I believe it to be the best Halloween candy.” said Junior Julia Robinson. This does sound appealing, but others might disagree. Snickers only scored two votes this year, coming in fourth place.
Twix
In third place is the delicious, classic Twix bar. Three out of the fifteen that were question said that Twix was their favorite sugary snack.
Kit Kat
A total of four people agreed that Kit Kat was the best Halloween candy to receive, making this treat the runner up of this year’s race. The crunchy wafer mixed with the sweet and smooth chocolate never disappoints and always seems to be one of the favorites.
Other
Suggested by Supriya Dhar, the most popular “other” option that was chosen is not your typical Halloween candy. Unusual but not surprisingly, of the 15 people that I asked, a third of them responded by claiming that Ferrero Rocher is the best candy to receive on Halloween. “I like Ferrero Rocher because I like the mixture of hazelnut with the chocolate that comes with it. The wafer inside the candy also gives it a nice texture.”
No matter what your number one choice of Halloween candy is, the point of Halloween is to enjoy one night of being whatever your imagination takes you. As long as you have fun and don’t receive too much toothpaste, pencils, or other Halloween “goodies” that aren’t candy, I would consider that a win! As Alyssa Cruz passionately exclaimed, “Those residents who hand out pencils should be thrown in jail!”
