Weight room Remodeled

By Cameron Young

A new era for Southview Athletics has begun. Many may ask the question, “Why is there a new era beginning?” due to the odd timing, lack of changes in coaches, athletic staff, and programs of sports at Southview. In today’s world, sports are changing extremely by incorporating science into training, creating athletes that are bigger, faster, and stronger than they have ever been. As this science has increased, equipment needs to increase with it too. For many years now, Southview has been behind the curve as far as this training equipment goes. But with the push of upcoming southview coaches, an extreme remodeling of the weightroom at southview has taken place.

In his first year as Head Football Coach of the Southview Cougars, Jeremy Rowe is making extreme changes to the way things are run as far as the weight room goes. He believes that football is different from many sports because you can completely determine your success on the field based on the work you do in the weightroom in the off-season. Before this year, the Southview weight room was jam-packed, filled completely with many machines, and very little room to do anything that required any space. Coach Rowe considered this unnecessary, and after studying on what many major high school and college programs had, he cleared out the weightroom, and installed ten full-racks with platforms extended from them. A full set of resistance bands were added to each rack for multiple uses for exercise. He also purchased ten all-purpose benches for each rack that can be put to multiple uses.

Cougar athletes are loving the new remodeling of the weightroom. Along with the new installation of equipment, Rowe also has provided a series of workout plans and exercises for athletes who may want to take advantage of them. Senior Baseball player Logan Danzeisen is an avid user of the new weight room. Logan told the Catalyst, “I love the new equipment in the weightroom, it allows athletes to do a lot more athletic exercises with the room that it creates.” The other aspect of the racks and the room of the new weight room is the new ability to perform many new exercises. “The resistance bands were a great addition. It allows us to do many more exercises and focus on aspects of strength, like power.”

After the development of the weight room, it seems like Southview Football and athletics as a whole are headed in the right direction. Danzeisen added, “Athletes are getting bigger and stronger, so I think it will be a great tool for Southview’s success in sports.” If you are an athlete at Southview and unsure about the new weight room, don’t be afraid to try working out there sometime, it is almost sure that there will be someone there to help you become a better athlete.
