Bowling Green is Considering Adding “Parklets” in Dining Area

Outdoor dining areas have been a big help during this social distancing pandemic for many businesses. During this pandemic, many businesses had to shut down for the sake of safety- causing them to lose money.

Jeff Dennis, City Council member, claims “It’s basically on-street dining decks that convert a single parking space into usable space for adjacent businesses. Thinking more long term, this is going to help us create a more vibrant downtown.” Dennis also mentioned they are planning to use nearly 8 of the 200 parking spaces for parklets.  These parklets would attract customers and businesses will start gaining the money back they lost during Covid.

The outdoor seating will satisfy everyone due to the safety of social distancing. “We just really feel it’s really critical that we’re doing everything we can to help these businesses open fully and safely as the summer approaches,” said Dennis. Speaking of businesses, Christina Tracy, co-owner of Juniper Brewing in downtown Bowling Green, opened its doors during the pandemic and is on board with anything to expand outdoor seating. As more businesses open, it will influence others to get on board as well. Next time you’re in Bowling Green, check to see if the parklets are built.
